2nd Webinar: “Methods for assessing quantitative imaging biomarkers (qIB) in breast cancer RT within the TETRIS project.”

After the success of the first TETRIS Educational Webinar on Dose-response modelling for normal tissues and model selection strategy, on February 27, 2026, Claudio Fiorino, Medical Physics at the San Raffaele Institute and Vita Salute University, in Milan, delivered the 2nd TETRIS Education Webinar on Methods for assessing quantitative imaging biomarkers (qIB) in breast cancer RT within the TETRIS project.

The presentation covered the rationale for using medical images to objectively score radiation-related toxicity, and introduced the full spectrum of radiomic features, from simple geometry and intensity-based descriptors to higher-order texture features. A key focus was placed on the persistent challenges of clinical usability, reproducibility, and standardisation of qIB, highlighting the importance of robust methodology, careful validation, and the use of explainable, parsimonious models to avoid overfitting.

🇸🇪 The 3rd TETRIS General Assembly has successfully concluded in Stockholm!

On 8-9 October, the TETRIS consortium gathered at the Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Centre, hosted by our partner Karolinska University Hospital, for two days of scientific exchange, collaboration and discussions on the project's progress and next steps. The meeting brought together consortium partners, Scientific Advisory Board members, Professor Alfons Hoekstra and Professor Carolyn Taylor, and patient representatives, Bröstcancerföreningen Amazona Stockholm and Associazione Cuore di Donna, providing an important opportunity to share results, exchange perspectives and strengthen collaboration across the different areas of research. @bcfamazona @brostcancerforeningen_amazona @associazione_cuoredidonna @Associazione Cuore di Donna

💡 Many key takeaways emerged from these two days, from making better use of existing clinical data to advance personalised risk prediction and exploring the potential of Digital Twins, to strengthening patient involvement and translating scientific advances into meaningful improvements in post-treatment care.

The General Assembly also featured educational sessions on AI in radiotherapy and Male breast cancer, broadcast from Stockholm and delivered by Maria Carmen De Santis from Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori di Milano, as well as valuable contributions from our Scientific and Patient Advisory Boards.

👏 Our sincere thanks to Karolinska University Hospital for hosting the meeting, to our Scientific Advisors, Patient Representatives and all project partners for their active participation and contributions.
